No running of Scripts
CASK FAQ
What is the matter?
You get a message that 'running of scripts' is disabled. As a result, a web site does not function well. To see the web site you will need to enable running of scripts.
What should I do?
There may be two reasons why running of scripts is disabled. Check them both, if applying.
- Running of scripts is disabled in the appropriate security zone. Go to this page to read how to solve it.
- The web site you want to view is on a CD, USB device, hard disk of your computer or other local source, and running of scripts is disabled on local sources (default in Windows XP, Service Pack 2 or higher). Go to this page to read how to solve it.
Background
To create interactivity and to respond with some intelligence to the user's input a computer programme needs a programming language. On web pages the de facto standard is JavaScript. Also CASK uses JavaScript to this aim.
Although JavaScript generally is considered to be safe; errors in the browser or the Operating System might be exploited by malicious programmes to perform undesired operations on your computer. For this reason, on highly sensitive networks (e.g. within financial, medical, judicial or military institutions) running of script might have been disabled as a security measure. Of course you also might have disabled scripting yourself.
Also, in Windows XP with Service Pack 2, running of script is default disabled for web sites that run from your local harddisks or CD or DVD.
