Run Flash in a Web Site on a CD, DVD, USB device, or a Hard Disk on my local Computer CASK FAQ

What is the matter?
Some aspects of Flash animations do not function when the web site they are in, is run from a CD, DVD, USB device, or a Hard Disk on your Computer.


What should I do?
  1. In your browser, go to: https://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.html
  2. Click 'Always allow'.



  3. Next to the textbox reading 'Edit Locations', click the arrow and choose 'Add location'. A small window appears.



  4. Enter the location you want to trust, in the textfield.

    In the small white window, below 'Trust this location', add the location you want to trust.
    • If you want to run Flash in a Web Site that is stored on hard disk C, add: C:\
    • If you want to run Flash in a Web Site that is on a CD, DVD or USB device, add the drive letter of the CD/DVD player or USB device



  5. Click confirm.



    The location has been added now:



  6. If necessary, repeat the steps 3-5 for other locations you want to trust.
Background
Flash animations run in a so-called 'sandbox'. As a security measure, by default, elements in the Flash animation are not allowed to communicate with elements outside it, e.g. the surrounding Web Page.
The procedure on this page describes how to allow this, using the so-called Flash Security Settings Manager.

Status
Up to date Adobe has not yet released a method to perform this setting offline, unfortunately.
