Localisation

The spleen lies in the posterosuperior area of the left side of the abdomen,under cover of the left ninth,tenth,and eleventh ribs.

• lymphatic system

Function

• phagocytosis of foreign materials
• removal of aged erythrocytes
• immune responses involving T- and B-cell functions
• hematopoiesis( only in fetal stage)
• storage of erythrocytes and platelets
